Evergreens is proud to announce the launch of the Women, Peace and Environmental Security program. The initiative is being implemented with the help of our partner organisation Sustainable Progress NGO and explores the intersectionality between gender, peace, and environmental challenges in Armenia’s border and conflict-affected regions.

To date, Armenia lacks gender-disaggregated data on how the climate crisis and environmental degradation are affecting women and girls, especially in communities facing heightened security, economic, and ecological risks. This absence of data limits our understanding of how intersecting factors—gender, geography, socioeconomic status, and conflict exposure—shape women’s experiences and resilience in the face of climate and environmental challenges.

Through this program, Evergreens will conduct a gender-sensitive baseline assessment in the context of environmental and climate challenges in Armenia, develop a guidebook to strengthen local actors’ capacity to integrate gender perspectives into environmental programming, and implement an advocacy campaign to elevate women’s voices in shaping sustainable peace and environmental policy.

By advancing an intersectional and evidence-based approach, the program will contribute directly to the implementation of the Women, Peace and Security Agenda in Armenia and support the realization of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 and the country’s National Action Plan on Women, Peace and Security. The insights and resources generated will help inform policymakers and stakeholders, guiding inclusive and gender-responsive environmental action.

This project is funded with UK International Development from the UK government and is implemented by Evergreens within the framework of the “Building Resilience in the Eastern Neighbourhood” program, carried out by the Institute for War & Peace Reporting (IWPR).
